Anime Expo

Anime Expo, North America’s largest celebration of Japanese culture, takes place every summer in Los Angeles. Over four days, nearly 400,000 people turn up in full regalia, cosplaying as some of their favourite characters from video games, movies and manga.

This year, photographer @scotty.tsunami spent the manic weekend tracking down the anime fans with the best outfits. “I think that there’s a part of you that connects with your inner child,” Scott says of the cosplayers. “For a moment you can live in the fantasy world that you have fallen in love with.”
